Story

‘Lighthouse’ takes the audience deep into the inner world of Maryam, an exiled artist caught between guilt, loss, love, and a greater truth. Inspired by the women-led protests in Iran, this short film is a visually and musically powerful drama that feels like poetry — moving from a deeply personal fate to a universal story of female resistance and the power of healing.

Statement

‘Lighthouse' is my tribute to the women who, day by day, resist believing the narratives imposed by oppressive regimes and cultures. It is for women around the world from all backgrounds — for my mother, grandmother, aunts, sisters, cousins, and fellow women. My hope is that through this film, they feel seen, held, and celebrated — knowing that they have been a source of inspiration for so many of us, and a vital part of the inner voice we can always return to.

Wanting to play the role of Maryam came from the story telling itself: from the silence, the gentleness, the observing – and at the same time from the force of the underlying reality. What touched me was the opening scene: the realization that faith, prayers, and spirituality belong to us as human beings – it must be kept separate from religions created by regimes and institutions.
Mona Pirzad
Actress
This movie taps into an emotion that is so relevant in these times. I feel we are obliged to tell stories like this. My wish for the audience is to keep both their minds and hearts open – because this is a human topic, and it concerns us all.

DOP
‘Lighthouse' is both urgent and timeless, portraying the impact of inequality and oppression in its rawest, most human form: grief. The mother and daughter could be anyone, and the film is a chance for the viewer to find human connection and hope for all of us to be safe and free.
